Beyond Accounting - Bespoke Excel Models

I specialise in structured Excel automation for accounting environments - but my real expertise lies in solving complex logic problems inside Excel.

While my primary focus is Excel-based automation for management accountants and finance teams, I also take on selected non-finance modelling and workflow optimisation projects where structured logic and complex data transformation are required.

If you have a challenging Excel-based problem outside accounting, feel free to enquire.

What “One Click” Management Accounts really mean

When I talk about automation, I don’t mean magic.

I mean this:

You change a reporting date.
You refresh.
Your management accounts update automatically within a stable, structured framework.

Any new accounts or classes introduced in the accounting system are clearly flagged - no detective work required.

The entire package is fully refreshable and designed to require only minimal manual maintenance.

A few deliberate clicks.

No copy-paste.
No manual reformatting.
No rebuilding reports from scratch.

The Framework Behind all Three Paths

Whether you choose to learn it, build it with support, or have it implemented for you - everything begins with the same core automation engine.

The example shown below uses a relatively standard management accounts package to demonstrate how this works in practice. The same underlying framework scales to multi-entity groups, consolidations, third-party data integrations and bespoke reporting structures.

This short preview introduces that foundation.

The full implementation detail lives inside the Masterclass, but the principles apply across all Purpose Logic engagements.

Who My Services Are For

Not Built for Big Teams - Built for You

Big firms have tech departments and whole teams for finance automation. You’ve got… well, probably just you.

And that’s exactly who I design my services for.

I work primarily with solo accountants and small teams - the ones doing everything from setup to sign-off. My goal is to be the support you should have but don’t - helping you build flexible, streamlined systems your way, not the corporate way.

In large companies, entire finance teams have access to dedicated technical support. But in small or medium-sized businesses? That “finance team” is often just you. You wear every hat - from bookkeeping to board packs - and somehow still manage to stay sane.

Here’s the good news:
In your world, you're not stuck with rigid, AI-driven systems requiring five layers of approval just to post a journal. You’ve got freedom. Flexibility. And yes - with the right setup - real automation.

We celebrate AI agents doing things for us - why not give Excel the same respect?

It’s time to stop seeing Excel and your accounting software as just tools.

Start treating them like your most reliable team members.

That’s what my services are built for - to help you turn the tools you already use into a system you can trust.

Meet Mr Catperk

– an overworked accountant

(who just happens to be a cat)

This spreadsheet-stressed cat is Purpose Logic’s furry avatar - a solo management accountant juggling multiple companies, drowning in manual processes, and forever battling month-end chaos.

He’s smart, capable, and resourceful… but stuck in his ways (sound familiar?). He gets things done in Excel, mostly manually. He’d love to use it more efficiently. He senses that Excel has more to offer - but he’s not quite sure how to tap into it in a way that actually changes how he works.

With just a bit of guidance and the right Excel logic he will be transforming his workflow one small improvement at a time - and so can you.

You’ll see him featured across my YouTube and LinkedIn content, learning Excel tricks, automating reports, and occasionally hissing at broken formulas.

My services? They’re designed to support accountants who face similar challenges and are ready to work smarter.

Excel is a Mindset

Excel isn’t just a tool - it’s a way of thinking.

As a management accountant with a love for logic, I believe Excel is our Quiet Power - an underused tool hiding massive potential.

I thrive of creative problem solving - not just for big strategic systems, but in everyday details of accounting. Whether I’m reviewing spreadsheets or processes, I’m always looking for better, smarter ways to get things done using Excel.

This mindset lets me build solutions that:

  1. eliminate or reduce manual input

  2. limit exposure to human error

  3. automate repetitive tasks and reports

  4. free up time for more meaningful work

It’s all part of seeing Excel not as a chore but as a tool for transformation.

Logic In Motion

Breaking Expectations of Excel.

Probably not what Excel was designed for...

Definitely what it is capable of!!!

These puzzles may look like fun (and they are!), but they also show what’s possible when you combine logic with Excel. They’re a visible expression of how I train my problem-solving muscles—then apply those same skills to real-life Excel models for clients.

Sharing my Excel puzzle models live at the London Excel Meetup Group.

Here’s the recorded version of my Excel Puzzles presentation. It’s a lighthearted but mind-bending session that blends creativity with logic - all built in Excel.

THINK THAT CAN’T BE AUTOMATED IN EXCEL? THINK AGAIN.

I stand by my motto: “Everything is Excel-Automatable Until Proven Otherwise.

But here’s what I often hear instead:

“I’ve always done it this manual way and it works.”
“It can’t be automated - it’s too specific.”
“I don’t have time to automate.”

And sure - manual methods can feel manageable… when you’re working with a small Chart of Accounts or a familiar process.

We often accept manual work because it’s familiar or inherited - not because it’s efficient. We don’t stop to ask “Could this be easier?” - we assume it can’t be.

So, if you’re staring at a spreadsheet thinking, “I don’t see anything I could automate…”
Then try looking at it through the lens of “If you can’t see it with two eyes, try looking at it with the three I’s!” framework I created to help you unlock the time-saving power that’s already sitting in your spreadsheets.

But what happens when your company grows and your trial balance jumps from 30 to 1,000 rows overnight?
Or when you're suddenly producing reports for multiple entities, not just one?

That same “quick fix” suddenly turns into hours of frustration, prone to error and impossible to scale.

  • IDENTIFY what’s repetitive, manual, or inherited

  • IMAGINE what could be automated - assume Excel can do it, and challenge yourself (or me!) to find how

  • IMPROVE the process one smart step at a time - layer automation gradually, without needing to rebuild everything at once

Once you apply this mindset, even your most “unchangeable” tasks start to shift. You start thinking like an automation-minded accountant And the results? More accuracy, less repetition, and a lot more time for the work that really matters.

Note: This video is an extract from a lesson inside my full Masterclass. It refers to management accounts because that’s where this mindset is put to work — but the principles apply to any repetitive accounting task.

If this mindset resonated with you - then the full Masterclass is where the real transformation happens.
