Helping Management Accountants to uncover what Excel is truly capable of

Hi. I’m Agnieszka Nyka, a management accountant (ACCA part-qualified) with a Master of Science in Applied Mathematics and over 25 years of hands-on experience in management accounting, group consolidations, and inter-company transactions across a variety of private equity-backed companies.

But spreadsheets? That’s where my real story begins.

I met Excel in 1999 (the ancient version Excel 97!)  and I took to it like duck to water. I’ve been building smart Excel solutions to make my work easier from the very beginning. On my very first office job, I got the label “Excel Expert” before I’d even fully earned it. I’ve been living up to it ever since.

I didn’t learn Excel automation from a course - there simply wasn’t one. I learned by building things. Breaking things. Rebuilding them better. That journey is what makes me the expert I am today.

What I Do Now

I design and build custom Excel-based systems that:

  • Eliminate repetitive tasks and reduce manual input

  • Modernise old spreadsheets without losing what works

  • Streamline reporting and automate bookkeeping processes

  • Integrate Excel with accounting platforms for more accurate, scalable outputs

While I specialise in QuickBooks Online, I can adapt my methods to work effectively with whichever accounting system you rely on.

Whether I’m improving a month-end close process or transforming a legacy file into a modern tool, I always aim for one thing: simple, smart, sustainable automation.

Lots of people know Excel.

A few know accounting.

Very few know both - and fewer still know how to build solutions that actually fit the way accountants work.

What I bring to the table is:

What Makes Me Different?

The practical insight of an experienced accountant

The logic and structure of a mathematician

The mindset of a self-taught developer who loves a challenge

The discipline of a competitive ballroom dancer (yes, really)

From Timetables to Puzzles

A CEO of a ski academy once asked me to build a school timetabling system that no off-the-shelf software could handle saying: “If anyone can do it, it’s you.” And just like that, the challenge had my name on it.

It was a weekly timetabling system for an elite ski school - impossibly complex, full of  conflicting constraints and real-time changes. I had to explore optimisation algorithms and build a system that adapted as fast as the weather. There were not no numbers, no costs, no profit - just rooms, timings, athletes, chaos… and Excel.

This project showed me what Excel can really do - and how much more is possible when you stop asking “Can this be automated?” and start asking “How can I make it work?

I loved every minute of it. When it ended, I missed the challenge so much that I started solving traditional logic puzzles in Excel - just for the joy of it. Turns out, puzzles sharpen the exact creative problem-solving skills that I now bring into accounting automation every day.

Beyond the Spreadsheets

When I’m not in Excel dealing with pivot tables, I’m almost certainly on a dance floor pivoting in a completely different way.

As a ballroom dancer, I’ve learned that great performance comes not from flashy moves, but from mastering the fundamentals.

Automation is no different. No macro, add-in, or Power Query trick can replace a deep understanding of the basics - and the confidence to apply them well.

Shall We Dance? I Mean - Shall We Start? ;-)

When I started automating, I had no course to follow - so I built the knowledge myself, one project at a time.

Now I’ve turned that experience into the kind of tools, systems, and resources I wish I had back then.

If you’re ready to stop copying and pasting, and start building smarter ways to work, I’d love to help.
